The Luxe Magazine team arrived on a beautifully sunny April day for the Opening Night VIP Preview of Artexpo New York, immediately swept up in the palpable anticipation of the queue heading into Pier 36. Against the backdrop of the East River, the air was brisk with wonderful art-inspired conversations even before the doors opened. Once inside, the energy in the expo hall was electric - a sophisticated whirlwind of color, texture, and the unmistakable buzz of a market in its prime. With 70,000 square feet of uninterrupted gallery space to navigate, there was quite simply so much to see, take in, and admire.

A Global Marketplace in the Heart of Manhattan

Celebrating its 49th year from April 9–12, Artexpo New York proved once again why it remains the world’s original fine art marketplace. Thousands of collectors, industry leaders, and enthusiasts descended upon the Lower East Side to discover the trends defining the 2026 season.

This year’s fair was a sprawling testament to creativity, hosting more than 170 leading galleries and publishers, alongside a curated selection of independent artists. Attendees from 24 countries explored the works of over 1,000 artists, ranging from traditional oils and sculptures to avant-garde photography and luminous glass works.

“This year’s fair drew a wide array of exhibitors from around the world, all of whom were keen to show collectors their latest work for this new season,” says Eric Smith, President and CEO of Redwood Art Group. “We saw record attendance this year, an indication of how strong and resilient the market is today. We look forward to the 50th-anniversary celebration next year—a memorable milestone for the art world.”

The Curated Experience

For the Luxe reader seeking the "next big thing," the fair’s specialized programming offered deep dives into specific niches:

The Spotlight Program: A focused look at cutting-edge talent, including standout recipients like Artwise Online, Muisca Gallery, and Catherine Blackburn.

Art Labs: Immersive installations that pushed boundaries, notably the "Social Media Slave" sculpture by Juan Luis Perez and the "Second Glance" project by K-Art Projects USA.

[SOLO]: The premier destination for discovering independent emerging artists from across the globe.

The Discoveries Collection: A masterfully curated selection of "must-have" pieces, all priced at $3,000 or less, proving that world-class collecting can be accessible.

Sales and Success Stories

The floor was not just for viewing; it was for acquiring. From the vibrant Jason Perez Art Collection on the Mezzanine to the kinetic installations that dominated social media feeds, the commerce was as brisk as the spring breeze outside.

Chadwick Arcinue of Chadwick Concepts reported a staggering weekend, selling 23 pieces and completely selling out his kinetic art installation. Similarly, Tata Fernandez of K-Art Projects USA highlighted the power of the fair’s reach, noting a collector who came specifically to acquire Montana Engels’ ‘Calypso’ after seeing it in the pre-fair campaign.

Honoring Excellence: The 2026 Artexpo Awards

The fair concluded by recognizing the visionaries who defined this year’s aesthetic. Key winners included:

Best Booth Design: Song Chao, Gallery A.T. 108, and Frank Baer Photos.

Best Sculpture: Caridad Sola (K-Art Projects USA), Evelyne Brader-Frank (Drew Marc Gallery), and Marc (AGI).

Best Solo Exhibitor: Rajul Shan, Angela Lanell, Edward Bakst, and Prayer Art.

Looking Ahead

As the sun set on the 49th edition, the industry is already looking toward the horizon. Artexpo New York will return to Pier 36 from April 8–11, 2027, for its monumental 50th Anniversary. If this year’s vibrancy was any indication, the golden anniversary will be the definitive event of the 2027 social and art calendar.
